Vancouver is a wonderful place for vegans.
I recently discovered this bakery which is 100% vegan and largely gluten-free. Walking in and having everything be accessible to me was thrilling.
It's the little things in life.

The first things I saw were the croissants, and suddenly everything in the world melted away and all I could see were croissants.
Vegan. Croissants.
Ever since I excluded butter and eggs from my diet, I've tried to ignore the decadent scent of croissants that waft through bakeries and cafes. When I was employed at a local coffee shop in my hometown, baking croissants was a part of the morning shift, and pulling them fresh from the oven was one of the most challenging tests of willpower. When I worked in and visited France, all of the boulangerie/patisserie display cases taunted me with buttery, flaky pastries.
So you can understand my mild freak-out when I saw egg- and dairy-free croissants. It was like discovering what was once legend to be real, and not just real, but RIGHT IN FRONT OF ME. Quickest purchasing decision ever.

The joy I felt when the croissant was placed in front of me is akin to the joy children feel when opening their eyes on Christmas morning to see that Santa has arrived.
I began by taking some pictures, but I didn't have my Nikon and my patience was already pretty low because hello, croissant! So after a few satisfactory snaps, I excitedly took my first bite.
It was everything I remembered croissants being: light, flaky, buttery, and very, very, messy. It certainly rivalled some of the better non-vegan croissants you can find in popular bakeries, and this had the bonus of being animal-free!
I think the only unfortunate part of the experience was how quickly I ate it.
Oh well. I guess I just need to go back! ;)
